Movie Review: The Expendables (2010)

What is the movie about?expendables

The Expendables is about a group of highly skilled mercenaries who are hired by a CIA operative to assassinate the cruel dictator of Velena, a small South American Island. Barney Ross (played by Sylvester Stallone) is the leader of the group, but when he and Lee Christmas (played by Jason Statham) narrowly escape the island after attempting to scout the opposition, Ross must decide whether to abandon the assignment or return on a soul-saving rescue mission.

Were the cast any good?

Renowned for it’s star-studded action hero line up, The Expendables certainly delivers with a cast that includes Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke and brief uncredited appearances from Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

What was good about the movie?

After a bit of a slow start to the film the action finally kicked in and was as furious and intense as you would expect from a movie containing such actors as the ones listed above. With plenty of guns, fighting and explosions, this movie can’t be faulted for it’s high-octane action.

What was bad about the movie?

There were a couple of parts in the movie that slowed it’s action and intensity to a crawl, and while these parts help accentuate some of the storyline, they didn’t really add to the build-up before the drama and so seemed like they could be removed without making any difference to the film whatsoever.

Would you watch it again?

With plenty of action and excitement, this movie is worth watching again for sheer entertainment value.

Who would you recommend it to?

It’s not quite Die Hard, but it has a similar feel to it with the level of action and traditional good versus bad setup. If high octane action with guns, fighting and explosions is to your liking, this movie is certainly worth watching, especially with it’s all-star cast.
